Paul Weller gives the Trembling Bells Carbeth CD the thumbs up...

The CD has Carbeth at the heart of it's essence and you can hear some songs from the album (and read a little more about the band) by going to the band's MySpace page here.

Carbeth Hutter's Community Company - AGM

It's AGM time again folks, and this one is as important as any previous one has ever been - given the ongoing process of negotiations with the Estate, it's inportant that all hutters attend the meeting (especially Ordinary Members). We'll be having this important meeting in the Edmonstone Hall at Blanefield on Sunday 22nd November, with a prompt 2pm start time, so please try to get there early.

We'll be discussing the Treasurer's report for the past year, Electing Committee members (which are actually now officially known as Company Directors) and generally discussing how things have been progressing over the past six to twelve months. Please make sure that you make the effort to come along. See you there.

Carbeth CD released - also, fancy a painting done of your hut.

Trembling Bells, a Glasgow based band including and, indeed lead by, Alex Neilson (son of hutters Douglas and Sue) have released their latest album with great critical acclaim. The artwork for the CD/Album was painted by Sue Neilson and it is a lovely portrayal of their own hut.

Sue has been a working artist for many years and she has very generously offered to paint a picture of any hutters hut, with the fee being entirely donated to the Carbeth Hutters Common Good Fund. Having seen the Album cover in the flesh (so to speak), we can assure you that you will not be dissappointed with the outcome if you wish to take up this great offer.

A painting of the size envisaged (around 14" square) would normally be priced at around £150 - given that Sue has offered to donate all of the fees from each painting that she does, we are suggesting a donation of £50 minimum, you can obviously donate more but seems sensible to set a minimum donation to save confusion.

If you would like to commission a painting of your hut, please contact Sue direct, through Doug's email address and she'll take it from there. The painting is lovely and there will undoubtedly be high demand so best be quick - email Sue at: dougneilson2003@yahoo.co.uk

And it just get's better... the band, Trembling Bells, have very generously offered to do a benefit gig for the Common Good fund, so, we'lll be looking into the practicalities of that very soon and we'll let you know the skinny once available. The CD has Carbeth at the heart of it's essence and you can hear some songs from the album (and read a little more about the band) by going to the band's MySpace page here.

You can also buy the CD or LP through this site, once you're enchanted by the tunes..... lovely.

Halloween Fundraiser (Oct' 2009)

It was Saturday the 31st of October 2009, the skies were clear and the moon was full, resulting in a lovely clear evening for the Hutter's Haunted Halloween shennanigans. The arrangements were all in place (thanks to a small dedicated army of volunteeers) for lots of ghostly & spooky fun for Halloween and, most wonderful of all, was the fact that so many of you came along and took part in what turned out to be a great evening. Blessed with some clear dry weather, the day started well with an afternoon of craft activities in the Community hut, involving Lantern making, Mask making, Pumpkin carving, Hats and spooky stencils etc.

With plenty of volunteers for all sorts of activities, from preparing Hot drinks to making some Home baking for sale on the day. In the evening, the sheer volume of numbers required a series of Ghost walks which incorporated lots of lovely things like Story telling and Poetry, together with some creepy creatures in the bushes.

A huge vote of thanks goes out to all those folks who put themselves forward to make the whole day a wonderful success. At this stage, we don't have clear figures on exactly how much was raised, but it's fair to say that the most important element i.e. the bringing together of hutters and friends in a friendly social event, proved a wonderful success.

We'll keep you posted here on the site once the organisers are able to provide us with an acurate update in terms of funds raised, in the meantime, remember to put the AGM date in your diary - it's to be held on Sunday 22nd at 2pm (prompt) in the Edmonstone Hall in Blanefield. Please try to come along.

Community meeting (August 2009)

August 2009, Edmonstone Hall, Blanefield. 2pm - 4pm

At the time of writing this little section, I do not have the exact info to hand (dates etc). However, those of you who were at the latest Community meeting will be aware that there has been very positive feedback from the Committee in terms of their ongoing discussions with the landowners.

We will, of course, keep all of you up to date as soon as possible with any further news as it develops.

In the meantime, the community are looking to increase their fundraising activities in order to ensure that we are best placed to continue in our ongoing efforts to secure a workable arrangement with the landowner.

So, please do offer your help or services if you are able.

Community Newsletter (July 2008)

CARBETH HUTTERS COMMUNITY COMPANY NEWS

At the final AGM of the Carbeth Hutters’ Association, it was voted by a huge majority of those present to transfer all activities to the newly formed CARBETH HUTTERS COMMUNITY COMPANY.
The actual vote was 51 for & 2 against.

This means that we are now on a legal footing, with all financial assets transferred to a new bank account in the new company name. It does not mean that you need to change your direct debit to pay into the community fund – that stays the same. It also means that all fully paid up Hutters, whether to the old Association, or to Allan Barns-Graham are eligible to become members.
There are three kinds of member: Ordinary Members, Associate Members & Junior Members.

With this Newsletter are INVITATIONS to become members.

This is your opportunity to take part in the new company. We would like to see as many Hutters as possible becoming members to make sure that all points of view and opinions are taken into account when decisions are made on Hutters affairs. This can include day to day management of water, roads & rubbish collection; through to sizes & types of huts best fitted to keep our conservation status to negotiations with fund-giving bodies which will help Hutting move with the times and ensure our future.

In order to become an Ordinary Member you must be:
· 18 or over
· Occupying a Hut at Carbeth & nominated to represent that Hut by others using the hut
· Fully paid up either to the Common Good Fund or in annual rent to the Estate

Associate Members
· Are not Ordinary Members
· Support the aims of the Community Company
· May be organisations which support the aims of the Community Company
· Are not eligible to stand for election to the Board nor to vote at any General Meeting

Junior Members are
· Between 12 and 17 who support the aims of the Community Company
· Are not eligible to stand for election to the Board nor to vote at any General Meeting

If you want to take this historic opportunity to become an Ordinary Member but have not kept up to date with annual payments to either the Common Good Fund or rent to the Estate, there is still time to complete your payments. This means you will have paid full rent to the Estate or £240 to the Common Good Fund each year since it was started (1st August 2002) or since you occupied your hut if it was after that date. It will be possible for you to apply in the future, once all conditions have been met. You can become an Associate Member or Junior Member now, or at any time in the future.

The enclosed forms MUST BE RETURNED NO LATER THAN 2ND AUGUST. This is to comply with Company Law. You can give them to any Board Member (the same as the old Committee) or post them to Carbeth Hutters Community Company, 2/R 5 West Bank Quadrant Glasgow G12 8NT. There will also be a stall at the Gala Day on 2nd August, where you can return forms & ask any questions you may have. Extra forms will be available then.

Volunteer at Carbeth

Much of the work (almost all of the work!) carried out on the Carbeth Estate and by the Carbeth Hutters Community Company, is carried out on a voluntary basis.

From arranging Social events, Meetings, News letters to clean-ups it all comes down to volunteer activity within the community. If you have a spare hour or two to help, have any ideas that you wish to bring foward or have an offer of help for the community, we would love to hear from you!

Contact us, either by email or by traditional methods to discuss this further!
